Angela “Angie” Hughes, age 42, formerly of the Newdale Community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21st, 2024 at Mission Hospital.
She was a daughter of Robert Hughes and the late Murrell Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Morgan Paige Hudgins; maternal grandparents, Charles and Doris Crowder and paternal grandparents, Carl and Virginia Hughes; uncles: Sherrell Crowder, Tommy and Dean Hughes and cousins: Chuck Crowder and Ernie Weatherman.
Angie loved spending time in the South Toe River “Flora Belle’s River” where she taught everyone how to swim. She enjoyed keeping her mother’s and great-grandmother’s bleeding heart alive for over 20 years, sitting on the back porch counting the stars and dancing with her children.
Surviving in addition to her father, Robert, is her children: Abigail Hudgins, Haley Hudgins (Zachery Lance) and Eli all of Burnsville; sister, Debbie McKinney and husband, Jack, of Newdale; brother, Robbie Hughes and wife, Becky, of South Toe; aunts: Dorothy McDougal (Clifford), Jane Crowder, Louise Beaver (Bill) Pat Weatherman (Doug); nieces: Sam Burnette (Kirk) and Cynthia Hensley (Aaron) nephews: Ryan McKinney (Julie), Dustin Hughes (Devin) and Matt Hughes (Tyara); cousin, Pam Donahue; the father of her girls, Tommy Hudgins and special friends: Ellen Hudgins and Pamela Canipe. Several great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 27th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Chad Wiseman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Strawbridge – Young Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
