Vickie Duncan Thomas, age 79, of Hamburg Road, the Ledger community, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Green’s of Spruce Pine.
Born on September 29, 1944 in San Diego County, CA, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Winifred Cripe Nafziger.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Duncan. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Tom and her sister, Sally.
Vickie was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. She had been employed by Nationwide Insurance, Henredon Furniture and later by the North Carolina Department of Corrections. She loved spending time with her family and particularly with her grandchildren and great grandson. She enjoyed painting, attending the Mitchell Senior Citizens Center, reading and her favorite books were mystery novels.
Left to cherish her memory is her son; Glenn Duncan of Bakersville; her daughters; Denise Young and Keith of Roan Mountain, TN; Dianna ‘Dinky’ Buchanan and Keith of Nebo; and Julianna Stout and Kiersten of Leesville, SC; her grandchildren; Jacob Thor Watson and Stormy Kay Buchanan and her great grandson; Duncan Thor Bates.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Bear Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Bear Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Chris Rathbone and Brent Duncan officiating. Interment will be in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
