News from US Congressman Chuck Edwards

I continue to fight for H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act. So far, the Senate has shown no interest in taking up the bill so I’ve remained focused on passing various bills to protect Americans from the effects of the catastrophe at the border such as no Department of Housing and Urban Development money for sanctuary cities, non-citizens can’t vote and DUI is justification for deportation to name a few.

In a Friday evening news dump, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced thatImage there were 302,034 illegal immigrant encounters at our southern border in December, the highest single month ever recorded in history.

The border crisis allowed – I dare say even welcomed – by this administration is destroying our country, and the American people are fed up. The lawlessness at our border has gotten so bad that CBP had to actually double the size of the chart it uses to report illegal immigrant encounters at the southern border from 150,000 to 300,000.

The influx of illegal immigrants not only endangers the safety of Americans and our national security, it is influencing our electoral system. Illegal immigrants should not speak for or dilute the voice of American citizens, which is why I introduced the Equal Representation Act. My bill would stop the inclusion of illegal immigrants in the U.S. census count for congressional district apportionment and Electoral College votes.

Incentivizing illegal immigration and exploiting our democracy to skew the number of congressional seats or electoral votes for the presidency is immoral and a sure path to the downfall of our nation. Only American citizens should be able to vote, and only American citizens should be counted when determining federal representation.

The chaos at our southern border is spreading across America, turning every town into a border town. Fentanyl is flowing in, crime is rising, our elections are being skewed and our schools and other public services are being strained, and American citizens are suffering the consequences. Secretary Mayorkas must be held accountable for failing to uphold the law at our borders and willfully neglecting his duty to keep these threats out of our country.

Biden’s unsurprising low approval rating

President Biden’s average job approval rating during his third year in office was at 39.8%, the lowest of any president since Jimmy Carter. This is unsurprising given the numerous crises Americans face because of Biden’s failed, far-left policies.

ImageThe American people know that Joe Biden has failed as our president and that his policies are hurting citizens and destroying what makes our country great. In fiscal year 2023 alone, more than 3 million illegal immigrants were released into our country because of the Biden administration’s failure to uphold the rule of law at our borders.

Bidenomics has shown time and time again that it is only making life harder for working Americans. Bidenomics has cost the average weekly paycheck 5% of its value and the typical American household $11,434 a year just to afford the basics. With inflation rising by 17% since Biden took office, hard-working Western North Carolinians are paying the price for this administration’s out-of-control spending.

I am fighting in Washington against Biden’s failed policies to restore a more free, safe and prosperous America.

Community summit on homelessness

During my conversations with constituents across North Carolina’s 11th district, it became clear that Western North Carolinians want their leaders to do something about the homelessness crisis in our mountains.

That is why I hosted a community summit to bring local leaders and law enforcement to the table and hear their different perspectives about homelessness in WNC, with the goal of finding actionable steps we can take to reverse this crisis.

This summit was just the beginning of our conversations to bring real solutions that will help improve the issue of homelessness in our district, and I appreciated the distinguished panelists for contributing their time and insights to this important conversation.

With my warmest regards,
