HCA Complaints

Yancey and Mitchell County residents took their turn voicing complaints about health care provider HCA at a meeting last night.

The meeting was held by Gibbins Advisors, the group tasked with monitoring HCA’s compliance with its contractual agreement when it bought Mission Health System a few years ago.

The meeting at Yancey Public Library was open to the public. Audience members described HCA’s conditions as unsafe and some said downright dangerous with understaffing of nurses and nurses being overworked. Many attending expressed worry and even outrage.

The meeting last night was the final of six meetings held by the independent investigator. There have already been meetings with patients from more than half a dozen counties in Western North Carolina.
