Early Voting for the second Republican Primary begins tomorrow, April 25th and runs thru May 11. On the ballot are the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor between Hal Weatherman and Jim O’Neill and the Republican nomination for state auditor between Jack Clark and Dave Boliek.
Under state law, a second primary may be requested by the second-place candidate if no candidate receives more than 30% of the votes cast in that contest.
Beginning tomorrow, the voting hours in Mitchell County will be 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday – Friday and 8:00am – 3:00pm Saturday, May 11th. In Yancey County hours are 8:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday and 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on the final Saturday, May 11th. The final Saturday, May 11th is the only Saturday when there is voting during this second Republican primary in either county.
Early voting is held at each county’s Board of Elections office. You will cast your vote on Election Day, May 14th, in your regular voting precinct. Burnsville precinct voting location has moved from the elementary school to the new Burnsville Fire Station and will remain their permanently.
This primary is only for voters registered as Republican, Unaffiliated voters that voted Republican during the 1st Primary Election or Unaffiliated voters who did not vote at all.
Election Day for this second primary is May 14th. All polling places will open at 6:30am and close at 7:30pm on that day.
