Rev. Larry Douglas “Bud” Edwards, age 72, of Burnsville, passed from this life to his eternal home on Monday, January 4th, 2021.
A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Reece and Pansy Laws Edwards. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Ronald Edwards and Dale Edwards; sister, Gail Edwards; sister-in-law, Debbie Byrd and father and mother-in-law, Charles and Mamie Deyton.
Bud and his wife, Lou, purchased Carter Auto Parts in Burnsville on January 1st, 1978 starting Bud’s Auto Parts. He announced his calling to preach in 1990 and began his ministry in Hickory at Zion Freewill Baptist for 1 year, Middle District Freewill Baptist where he was for 12 years and then in Nebo at Hillcrest Freewill Baptist for 13 years. He loved antique cars and enjoyed all his friends getting together for their cruise-ins and car shows.
Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Louella Deyton Edwards; daughters: Kellie Ledford (Todd) of Maryville, TN and Cindy Tipton (Paul) of Burnsville; four grandchildren: Victoria Sterling, Kristen Lane (BJ), Allison Woody (Dalton) and Nicolas Tipton; three great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Liam and Adelaide Lane; sisters-in-law: Lucille Edwards, Ann Murphy (Terry), Sarah Harris (Johnny), Dawn Peterson (Andy) and Tammy Ward (Kenneth); brother-in-law, Darrin Byrd and dedicated employee and friend, Terrell Deyton, who has worked for him from the start. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
Bud will lie in state from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, January 8th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.
A public graveside service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Deyton-Laws Cemetery. All friends and family are requested to meet at Yancey Funeral Services by 1:30 to go in procession and ask that you please wear a mask.
