Sandra Dawn Martin, age 62, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, was welcomed to her eternal home on January 2, 2021.
Born and raised in Ann Arbor to Eugene and Dollie McMahan Martin; she graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High. Sandy lived in Western NC, the birthplace of both her mother and father, much of her adult life.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Her memories and love are entrusted to her daughter, Rachel, son-in-law Anthony and beloved grandchildren, Giovanni, Bella, and Nellie Hipp. Sandy is also survived by her sister Debbie Ford and husband Don of Spruce Pine, NC; brothers Danny Martin and wife Terri of Perry, KS; Tony Martin of Burnsville, NC; as well as an uncle, an aunt, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sandra worked in marketing at The Hendersonville Times News, The Asheville Citizen, The Ann Arbor News and The Dearborn Times-Herald. She earned her associate’s degree from Blue Ridge Technical College while working full time and raising her daughter. One of her joys was finding treasures at thrift stores, estate sales, and on the internet. Sandy bought and sold jewelry for pleasure and as a livelihood after being diagnosed with MS in her early 50s. She loved music and had a beautiful voice. Wherever she lived, she would plant flowers and make friends with her neighbors. She loved to give and help others even when her own needs were not met.
Her faith in Jesus Christ, Christian values, and Bible verses sustained her throughout her life which was often fraught with regrets, personal struggles and battles with pain and depression. Her biggest joy was being “Nani” to her grandchildren of whom she beamed with pride, pictures, and stories. Sandra was an imperfect person with a perfect Savior. Recently she said one of her favorite verses was Romans 8:38-39 “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” And so, it was and is.
The family will have a service and committal at Yancey Funeral Services in Burnsville at 1:00 on Sunday, January 10 with her brother, Evangelist Danny Martin, officiating. Family and friends are kindly asked to abide by Covid guidelines if you wish to attend. Private interment will be at the family plot in Micaville where she will be buried next to her mother.
