Wade Fortner, age 67, of Grassy Creek Drive in Spruce Pine, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.
Born on April 1, 1953 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Arnold and Nell Brinkley Fortner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry E. Fortner of Indianapolis, IN.
Wade was a member of the Altapass Church of God and was retired from Henredon Furniture. He loved the Lord, his church and church family. He also loved fishing, hunting, and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed the stillness of God’s creation and spending quiet in nature with the Lord.
Left to cherish his memories of forty-five years is his wife; Sylvia Hall Fortner of Spruce Pine; his sons; Charles Fortner and wife, Kim of Conover, NC and Bryan Fortner; his best friend, and wife, Tabitha of Spruce Pine; his daughter; Catherine Boone and husband, Derrick of Spruce Pine; his greatest title of ‘Papaw’ to his grandchildren; Tyler Boone, Cadee Boone, and Hayden Fortner; his sister; Lila Bailey of Sumter, SC; his sister-in-law; Janet Fortner of Indianapolis, IN; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend and hunting buddy, Albert Thomas.
A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Altapass Church of God. The funeral service will be on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Altapass Church of God with the Rev’s. Steve Davis, Cameron Smith, and Tyler Boone officiating. Burial will be in the Prices Cemetery.
The funeral service will also be broadcast by the Altapass Church of God on 107.5 FM and can be heard in the church parking lot beginning at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 18, 2021.
