Wayne E. Rathburn, age 67, of Concord, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 18th, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Landon and Bonnie Pittman Rathburn. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kelly Lee Rathburn, who passed in 2008; sisters: Doris Hollifield, Helen Raper and Lucille Banks and brothers: Junior Rathburn and Charles Rathburn.
Wayne was a longtime member of Victory Baptist Church. He loved splitting and busting firewood, hunting, and riding his four-wheeler up on the mountain and feeding the deer.
Surviving is his loving wife, Jeannie Presnell Rathburn; son, Billy Rathburn and wife, Penny, of Concord; step-children: Allison Rowe and husband, Chris, of Bakersville, Blake Glenn and wife, Bethany, of Altapass and Christen Glenn of Lenoir; grandchildren: Eli, J.R., Ashley (Keith), Christie, Mason, Kaylee, Brianna, and Asher; great-grandchildren: Kendal, Paisley, Madison and Makinley; sister, Joyce Briggs and husband, Mike, of Jacks Creek; brother, Gene Rathburn and wife, Frances, of Concord and brother-in-law, Buster Raper of Candler. Several other extended family also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23rd at Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the chapel at the funeral home with Rev. Scot Garland and Rev. Ray Wilson officiating. Graveside Services will follow in the Ray Cemetery at Concord.
