Roy Dulaney

Roy Dulaney, age 75, of Burnsville, ran into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Lee and Maude Hughes Dulaney.  He was also preceded in death by a mother-in-law, Beatrice Renfro and brother-in-law, Euranious Robinson.  Roy was the longest active member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Board of Directors and Trustee.  He was a teacher for 30 years at West McDowell Junior High.  He was a quiet, gentle and unassuming man who loved his God, church, his family and enjoyed farming with his brothers.  Roy was large in stature and even larger in character; everyone that met him loved him.

Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Beverly Renfro Dulaney; sister, Willa Dean Robinson of Burnsville; brothers: Charles and Ted Dulaney; niece, Renee Higgins and husband, Mike; nephew, Justin Higgins;  Erick Pech Juarez, whom he loved like a son, all of Burnsville; father-in-law, Dallas Renfro of Spruce Pine and special friends and traveling buddies, Dick and Patricia Westbook.  Numerous cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 7th in Shoal Creek Baptist Church.  Rev. Dick Westbrook, Rev. Grey Fisher and Pastor Merritt Taylor will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Dulaney Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
