The Town of Spruce Pine is making plans to spruce up possible problem areas around the town by establishing a local community appearance commission. The purpose of the commission is to establish ordinances to deal with junk on properties, abandoned properties and properties in disrepair within the Spruce Pine town limits. Mayor Darla Harding said she would like to get the commission started with seven members. Those expressing interest in being on that commission are Greg Henline of Southwest Trading Company, City Drive-In owner Janeen Long, general contractor Zan Sistare, Jeff Harding of Harding’s Landscaping, attorney Beth Holmes, Town Council member Rocky Buchanan and Spruce Pine Town Manager Darlene Butler. The commission will look for problem areas and make recommendations for improvement to the town council who would then consider establishing ordinances to deal with the problems.
