Phyllis “Bob” Bodford

Phyllis “Bob” Bodford, age 96, of the Sawmill Hollow Community, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 29th, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Myrtle Woody Buchanan.  She was also preceded in death by her husband  Reed “Doger” Bodford, who passed away in 1999; brother, David Lee Buchanan; sisters:  Edith Phillips, Wilma Thomas Bailey and Shirley Canipe; special nephews:  Fred Brown and Ryan Hensley and special niece, Morgan Canipe.

Bob was a Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years.  She attended West Burnsville Baptist Church.  She loved quilting, cooking, her flowers, but the most important thing to her was her family.  Bob was a mother to the entire family and was one of a kind.

Surviving is her son, Dennis Buchanan and wife, Bessie; special nephews that she loved as sons:  Roger Buchanan and wife, Teresa, and Dean Hensley and wife, Linda; granddaughter, Cindy McKinney and husband, Jamie, Tim Buchanan and Marc Buchanan and wife, Tammy; great-grandson and love of her life, Cody McKinney; brother, Daniel Buchanan and wife, Jean; sisters:  Wanda Brown and husband, Andy, and Susie McIntosh and husband, Hub.  Numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Chaplain Joe Bennett, Rev. Rick Hensley and Rev. Ricky Ray will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services.  Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Pete Young Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be: Shannon Buchanan, Andy Brown, Kenny Buchanan, Tommy Johnson, Kane Boone and Dwight Boone.
