Lula Whitson Peterson, age 83, of the Bailey Settlement in Poplar, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Estella Horton Whitson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arvel Peterson, who passed away in 1999; brother, D. M. Whitson and sisters: Inez Peterson and Pearl Lee Peterson. Lula worked with Baxter Healthcare for over 20 years. She was a member of Bailey Independent Brethren Church. She loved working in her garden and flowers.
Surviving is her daughter, Loretta Lynn Zahn and husband, Martin; grandchildren: Justin Howell of Green Mountain and Jessica Forbes and husband, Kyle, of Bakersville; great-grandchildren: Millie Howell, Silas Forbes and Walker Forbes; brothers: Boyd Whitson and wife, Rhonda, of Kings Mountain and Daris Whitson of Kings Mountain; sister, Erna Lee Harris and husband, Thomas, of Dallas and her beloved dog, Oreo. Numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Friday, May 7th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Following the visitation, the family will go in procession for a graveside service that will be held at 2 p.m. in the Peterson Cemetery in the Bailey Settlement at Poplar. Rev. Reed Bagby and Rev. John Hurd will officiate.
Pallbearers will be: Justin Howell, Kyle Forbes, Michael Whitson, Nathan Hudgins, Brandon Griffith and Heath Barnett.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Ciji, Terrie, Hannah and Kim with Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for the wonderful care given to Lula.
