Samuel Edward Evans

Samuel Edward Evans, age 86, of the Jacks Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021 at his home.

A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Carl and Georgia McGee Evan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vernell Harris Evans, who passed away February 6th, 2021; sister, Virginia Jones and brothers: Ray Evans, Jack Evans and Ted Evans.

Sam was a member of Bolens Creek Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran having served in the Korean War for 3 years. He served 20 years with the National Guard and retired as an E-8 Master Sgt.

Surviving are his sons: Edward Evans and wife, Pamela, of Newton and Jack Evans of Friendsville, TN; grandchildren: Jason White (Jill) of Newton, Mandy White of Hickory, Matthew Evans (Whitney) of Granite Falls, Ryan Evans of Weaverville and Kayleigh Evans of Arlington, VA; great-grandchildren: Luke White, Liam White, Zachary White, Jordan White, Reece Evans and Averi Evans; sisters: Carlene Hall of Jacks Creek and Angeline Wilson and husband, Bill, of Johnson City, TN and sisters-in-law: Monja Evans of Charlotte and Clara Harris of Burnsville. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 5th, 2021 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Jason White will officiate. Burial will follow in the Williams-Evans Cemetery with Military Honors Conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter 57 D.A.V. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
