Ruby Garland Tipton

Ruby Garland Tipton, age 104, of the Red Hill Community, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, June 13th, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Jake and Esther Stevens Garland and the wife of the late Garrett Tipton who passed away in 1992.  She was also preceded in death by daughters: Evelyn Garland and Edna Griffith; sons: Wade and Wayne Tipton; sons-in-law: John Garland and Charles Griffith; daughter-in-law, Jane Tipton; grandchildren: Benita G. Maney and Dean Griffith; great-great grandchild, Timber Ridge Bailey, and sisters: Clyde Tipton and Trula Garland.

She and her husband, Garrett, owned and operated Tipton’s Shopping Center for over 40 years.  Ruby grew up in Ridgeview Presbyterian Church, but attended and was a founding member of Heaven Bound Baptist Church.  She loved reading her Bible, going to church, doing word search puzzles, gardening, quilting, and watching the Atlanta Braves and the Tarheels.

Surviving is her daughter, Elaine Laws (Dale) of Red Hill; daughter-in-law, Davenia Tipton of Red Hill; grandchildren: Debbie Ollis (David), Janet Cook (Phillip), Mike Tipton (Carolyn), Sharon Barnett (Jerry), Rodney Griffith, Renee Bailey (Brady), Kevin Tipton (Megan), Matthew Laws (Cara), Brandon Laws (Shea) and Amelia McMahan (Junior); great-grandchildren: Kenny (Lisa), Mark, Tonya, Billy (Lydia), Ryan (Shana), Kasey (Cara), Lucas (Missy), Leah (Dustin), Jared, Faith (John), Hope (Will), Jordan (Rachel), Jaden, Elijah, Isaiah, Hannah, Etta, Elam, Eli, Savannah, Ava, Mason, and Olivia; great-great grandchildren: Luke, Monica, Megan, Bradley, Piper, Jonah, Sawyer, Saylor, Landon, Kylie, Easton, Kimber, Grayson and Riverlyn and great-great-great grandchildren: Tristen and Aliyah.  Several other extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Speaker Kevin Tipton and her Pastor Rev. Steve Glenn will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Ridgeview Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  Grandsons will be Pallbearers.
