The State Library of North Carolina has announced the SLNC Adapts Library Services and Technology Act grant awardees. The 45 awards, totaling nearly $1.6 million, support local library projects that target high-need communities to address digital inclusion, expand digital network access, purchase internet-accessible devices, provide related technical support in response to the coronavirus, and support community needs.
Avery-Mitchell Yancey Regional will receive $49,213.00 to purchase an Outreach vehicle that will expand services to include technology checkouts, internet hotspots, and opportunities for patrons who do not have digital literacy skills to learn these through a digital navigator. This project will be data driven, with multiple community partners assisting in providing information from patrons and clients who they serve.
Madison County Public Library’s “Community Connections” project expands internet access at its three locations and five senior nutrition sites across the county. Patrons at the library and nutrition sites will have the ability to check out hotspots and Chromebooks in addition to receiving ongoing digital literacy training.
The State Library received funding as part of the federal government’s investment in museums and libraries through the American Rescue Plan Act, which provided additional funds to the Institute of Museum and Library Services to support vital library programs and services in local communities.
