Shirley Byrd, age 61, of the Cane River Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 2nd, 2021.
A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Carmen and Mary Murphy Styles. Shirley was a loving wife, mother and “nena”.
Surviving is her loving husband of 36 years, Rickie Byrd; daughters: Kisha Byrd Joyner and husband, Daniel, of Cane River, Jackie Byrd Shepherd and husband, John, of Burnsville and Heather Connell and husband, Cody, of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren: Dennis, Bryson and Jackson Shepherd and Scout and Sunni Connell and siblings: Paul of Burnsville, Chuck of South Toe, Ben of Spruce Pine, Kathy of Bakersville and Nina of South Toe. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 7th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Burial will follow in the Byrd Cemetery at Piney Hill. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
