Gene Millard Hoilman, age 73 of Halls Chapel, passed away Saturday, August 14th, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Millard and Blondie Grindstaff Hoilman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal Dawn; brothers: Glenn Hoilman and Terry Hoilman; sisters: Pansy Richardson, Geneva Dawson, and Kathy Sue Smith.
He worked as a mill worker for Deneen Mica Company and served as a care taker at McEwen Properties for over 50 years. Gene was a straight shooter; his motto was “plain talk’s easy understood.” He loved spending time with family and his grandchildren, his church family included. They were his extended family. He loved his wife, Deanna, of 55 loving years and his dog, Tinker. He was a dedicated deer hunter, who loved playing his guitar and singing praises in church and anywhere else he happened to be. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who look forward to seeing him again.
Surviving is his wife, Deanna Hoilman, of the home; daughter, Sharon Bartlett (Jerry); son, Kenny Hoilman (Sandy); brothers: Dennis Hoilman and Henry Hoilman; sisters: Glenda Rae and Linda Robinson; two grandsons: Jeremy Bartlett (Amanda) and Kegan Hoilman (Chloe); one granddaughter, Kayla Wiseman (Chris); three great-grandsons: Jack Bartlett, Mason and Kippie Wiseman; two great-granddaughters, Blakely Rae Hoilman and Harper Cornett; two other great-grandchildren expected in December 2021 and March 2022; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 18th at Temple Baptist Church at 12 p.m. in Newland, NC. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior to service time. Pastor Timothy Rupard will officiate. Interment will follow the service in the Temple Baptist Church Cemetery.
