Kathy Hughes Hoilman, age 72, of Roaring Creek Road in Newland, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 16, 1949 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Hobart Hughes, Sr. and the late Zona Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers; Lester, Wallace, Jason, Sonny, and Spence Hughes; and her sister; Vickie.
Kathy’s greatest joy in life was shopping. She loved her family and spending time with them, particularly her grandson, Logan. She enjoyed family get togethers, family dinners, and holidays. She loved being with children and had worked for many years at Walnut Grove Church where she faithfully worked as a Head Start teacher. Her favorite color was baby blue and she loved hummingbirds and dragon fly’s, orchids and tulips were her flowers of choice. She was a member of the Roaring Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Her dog, Copper had a special place in her heart.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of fifty-two years; Ivan Edward Hoilman of the home; her son; Grantley Hoilman of Newland; her daughter; Jessi Jones and Sammy Ollis of Newland; her grandson; Logan Ollis of Newland; her sisters; Jean Oaks and Alice Hughes of Newland; several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service and interment will be on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Hughes Cemetery on Jerry’s Creek Road with the Rev’s. Ken Staton and Russell Hoilman officiating.
The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to; Hospice & Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their wonderful care of Kathy, her dear friends, Vickie and Kenny Caraway and many other family and friends that help out.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Webb Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
