Iva Higgins Mitchell, age 96, of Burnsville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 3rd, 2021 at NHC Healthcare in Greer, SC. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Cirt and Augusta Angel Higgins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Mitchell, who passed away in 1987; daughters: Shelby Jean Fox and Jackie Ann Green; son, Jimmy Mitchell; grandchildren: Brandon Teal and Michael Trammel; and brothers: Avery Higgins, Landon Higgins, and Earl Higgins. Iva loved to sew and quilt, do ceramics, and read.
Surviving is her son, Tommy Mitchell and wife, Marilyn, of Greenville, SC; daughter-in-law, Linda Mitchell of Burnsville; sons-in-law, J.T. Fox of Burnsville and Jimmy Green of Greenville, SC; sisters-in-law: Edna Higgins of Greenville, SC and Irene Higgins of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren: Pam Snyder, Melissa Gouge, Curtis Fox, James Green, Tammy Barry, LeNae Taylor, Sundi Buchanan, Wendy Mitchell, Jonathan Trammel, Steven Goff, David Alex Mitchell and Kathleen Rae Mitchell; 26 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 6th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services with Don Mitchell and Trevor Buchanan officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral services. Burial will follow in the Edwards Cemetery on Coxes Creek. Pallbearers will be Alex Mitchell, Allen Snyder, Curtis Fox, Ian Morrison, James Green, Jesse Buchanan, John Gouge, Matthew Snyder, and Tru Buchanan.
