Jon Ray is slated to replace Johnny Riddle as Yancey County Commissioner pending the upcoming September 13 Commissioners’ meeting. On August 16 Democrat Commissioner Johnny Riddle submitted a letter of resignation to the Yancey County Board of Commissioners. On August 26th the Yancey County Democratic Party Executive Committee held a meeting at which Jonathan Lewis Ray was nominated and selected to receive the recommendation of the Yancey County Democratic Party to fill Riddle’s seat. The letter was sent to the Board of Commissioners. This Request for Appointment and Oath of Office is scheduled for the Yancey Commissioners’ regular meeting on September 13th. Johnny Riddle served as a Commissioner for 13 years and began working in the Yancey County Clerk of Court’s office in anticipation of Clerk of Court Tammy McEntyre’s retirement. McEntyre’s retirement is effective September 30th. Upon her recommendation Riddle has been appointed by Superior Court Judge Gary Gavenus, to take over as Clerk of Court, until the next election in 2022.
