Dennis Locke Johnson, age 76, of the Cane Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 27th, 2021 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Porter and Maggie Fender Johnson. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Mona Lisa Johnson and other siblings: Doris Damer, Nathan Johnson, Athelina Bryce, Trudy Ellison, Kathy Covert, Allen Johnson and Gail Biddix. He was a US Army Veteran, having served two terms in Vietnam, one term in Germany and was an E6 Staff Sergeant. Dennis’ heart and soul was his wife, Joyce. He loved the Lord, gardening and hunting ginseng. Dennis was a friend to many and would help anyone.
Surviving is his loving and devoted wife, Joyce Ledford Johnson; brother, Sidney Johnson; sister, Frieda Johnson and several special brothers and sisters-in-law. Dennis and Joyce never had children of their own but raised many including: Daniel Wayne Ledford, Melanie Hoss and Star Ingram. Numerous nieces, nephews and many friends also survive.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 31st following the visitation at the funeral home. Rev. Rick Bennett and Rev. Lance Riddle will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cane Creek Cemetery.
