The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office is one of the first sheriff’s offices in the state’s 100 counties to offer durable concealed handgun permit cards for new and renewal applicants.
When new and renewal applicants receive their concealed handgun permit issued by that state of North Carolina, the sheriff’s office will supplement the paper permit with a durable permit card. The new plastic permit card is identical to the paper card provided by state officials.
This does not affect the normal concealed carry weapons’ permit process for applicants, the sheriff’s office said.
“We are pleased to be one of the first counties in the state to offer this service to our citizens,” said Chief Deputy Shane Hilliard. We value our concealed carry permit holders and are excited to offer this to our new and renewal applicants at no extra cost.”
If you would like a durable plastic card for your current concealed handgun permit that is not up for renewal there will be a convenience charge of $10.00. Sheriff’s Office staff will be doing those permits by appointment, call the Sheriff’s Office permits division at 828-682-2124.
