Yancey County Sheriff’s Office received a call on October 24, 2021 of a possible explosive device at a residence located on Comet Road at Riverside. The Sheriff’s Office contacted the SBI, ATF, and the FBI after locating the device. Comet Road trailer park was evacuated during the recovery and removal of the device.
Kenneth Jack McIntosh was arrested and charged with Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction.
“The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to keeping the citizens of our county safe and take all reports of this nature very seriously,” says Chief Deputy Shane Hilliard. “We encourage all citizens to contact the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office with any information regarding suspicious activities or items.”
McIntosh is currently being held in the Yancey County Detention Facility under a $125,000.00 bond.
