Arvil F. “Jack” Hensley, age 86 of Burnsville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of Monday, November 29th, 2021.
Born to the late Rex and Laura Silvers Hensley, he was a lifelong resident of Yancey County. Like his fathers and brothers before him, he was a builder all his life. He also loved farming, playing music, and always being the comedian. He loved to laugh, play jokes on his grandkids, and tell old stories of his life’s experiences. He loved everyone, was a kind and giving man, who would go the extra mile for anyone, friend, or stranger.
He was a faithful and steadfast servant of the Lord, who told many times, the story of being baptized above the Cane River bridge when he was 14 years old. A lifelong member of Riverside Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir leader, and trustee for close to 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Evelyn Buchanan Hensley, who passed away October 2007. He was the last surviving sibling of 8 sisters and 3 brothers.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughters, Patricia Ball (Royce), Teresa Simmons (Randy), Lisa Norman (Tim), and Kristy Hensley; son, Anthony Hensley (Tami); 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 1st at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Spruce Pine at 1 p.m. Officiating will be his pastor, Tommy Murphy, and Royce Ball. The body will lie in state Wednesday, December 1st from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home for public viewing. Memorial donations may be made to Gideon’s International.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation for their kindness and wonderful attention given to our dad. He loved all of you.
