The latest COVID-19 numbers for the Tri-County area, released by the Toe River Health District, showed an increase in new positive cases detected in Avery and Yancey Counties. Mitchell cases decreased by 2.
During the period from December 6 to the 12th, Yancey County had 110 new positive cases detected, compared to 76 the previous week. Mitchell County reported 60 new positive cases last week and 62 the week before. Avery County saw 62 new positive cases compared to 45 the week before.
The number of COVID deaths in the Tri County area since August 1st is now 48. Twenty-two of those deaths are from Avery County, 16 in Yancey and 10 from Mitchell County.
