Barbara Winters Young, age 75, of the Arbuckle Community, went home on Tuesday, December 21st, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Asheville Specialty Hospital.
A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Glera Allen Winters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, JD Young, who passed in 2020; sister, Irma Burnett, and brothers: Bobby, Royce, Paul, Frank, Earl and Guy Winters.
Barbara was a member of Sullins Branch Baptist Church, where she was the clerk and treasurer for many years. She worked for over 40 years with Intermountain Headstart, where she taught for 21 years before becoming their Healthcare Manager. She loved to read, and will always be remembered as being a loving wife, mother, Mamaw and Gigi.
Surviving is her daughter, Kim Young of Arbuckle; son, Greg Young of Arbuckle; grandchildren: Daniel Stevens, Emily Young, Brandi Young Phillips (Dillon), and Kaitlyn Beck (Reid); great-granddaughter, Emma Phillips; great-grandson, Jayden Stevens; step great-grandson, Aiden Phillips; brother, David Winters (Donna) of Newdale; sisters-in-law: Shirley Winters of Crabtree, Carol Winters of Hurricane, WV, Sammie Smith of Hickory, and Ethel Young and Shirley Young, both of Arbuckle. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Sullins Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Ken Jenkins and Rev. Dallas Renfro will officiate. Graveside services will follow in the Gus Young Cemetery with her grandson-in-law, Rev. Reid Beck, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
