Clyde ‘Bud’ Newton

Clyde ‘Bud’ Newton, age 87, of Forrest Fisher Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 at his home.

Born on May 24, 1934 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Lydia Bridges Newton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother; Kenneth Newton; his daughter; Sandy Smith; and his grandsons; Travis DeMetro and Nicholas Roberson.

Bud was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and was retired from Hampshire Hosiery. He had accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior many years ago. He liked fishing, hunting and working in his garden. He enjoyed reading and watching western movies.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-two years; Christine Bridges Newton of the home; his sons; Roger Newton and wife, Melanie of Concord, NC and Mark Newton and wife, Leslie of Bakersville; his daughters; Dawn Roberson and husband, David of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Amy Ward and husband, Matt of Bakersville; his brother; Ray Newton and wife, Wanda of Supply, NC; his sisters; Coleen Brackett of Lawndale, NC and Margaret Dennis and husband, Keith of Devine, TX; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; several special nieces, nephews, and friends.

A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Freedom Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 12:00 noon at the Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev. Cass Buchanan officiating. Interment will be in the Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to the Staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their wonderful care of Bud during his illness.
