Linda Clara Higgins, age 63, of Burnsville, a woman of unmatched beauty, grace, and courage, passed from her earthly home into the kingdom of Heaven in the early morning hours of January 4th, 2022.
Linda lived her life in the mountains she loved, for which she was always grateful. She always said, “God gave us a beautiful place, didn’t he? Just look at his glory.”
Yes. Yes, he did.
Few people in this world could have possibly loved their family more than this precious woman did. A mother’s love is second only to God’s, but Linda didn’t reserve that love just for her children. She gave her love freely and openly. She was a best friend to anyone who needed it. Not many people can claim such a rare gift. God knew she could carry the weight of that kind of love. Linda’s life was her family. She lived for them. And her dying wish was for them to hold on to that love. Always.
She was a long-time employee of Bryant’s Land Development and a member of Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church.
Linda was preceded in death by the love of her life, Milton Bradley Higgins, III, who passed away only months ago on June 24th. She was also preceded in death by her loving parents, Bernard Molt Higgins and Margie Lee Higgins, both of Burnsville; her treasured maternal grandparents, James Robert Boone and Fannie Clara Letterman Boone, both of Burnsville; and paternal grandparents, Lester Molt Higgins and Maude Sparks Higgins of Westminster, Maryland.
She is survived by her children: Charity Higgins-Sutphin and husband, Will, of King, NC; Tyler Higgins and fiancé, Sarah Westhusing, of Burnsville; her five precious grandchildren: Millie Jo Higgins, Theodore Kephart Higgins, Charlie Hoston Sutphin, Margie Pearl Sutphin, and Samuel Floyd Sutphin; sister, Sabra Westall and husband, Forrest, of South Toe; sister, Elisia McLain and husband, Doug, of Burnsville; brother Darrin Higgins and wife, Kim, of Burnsville. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces and nephews whom she truly loved as her own children.
Linda loved her sunrises. She woke early every morning in all weathers to see the glory of each new day. She died with the coming of the sun on a snowy peaceful morning. It was as it should be. She has found her peace and let us be glad in it. Let her life be a legacy to us all. Love is the only thing we take with us when we go.
She leaves us with her favorite verse: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives, so let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Linda’s memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday, January 15th, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Reverend Forrest Westall Sr. will be officiating. The family will receive friends and loved ones immediately following the service. Private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Compassionate Care of Western North Carolina at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
