Earl Smith

Earl Smith, age 94, of Earl’s Repair Shop Road in Spruce Pine passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at his home.

Born on May 23, 1927 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Clyde Smith, Sr. and the late Maggie Cook Smith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Eugene Smith; a brother, Clyde Smith, Jr.; his sisters; Laura Sparks and Myrtle Stewart; his daughter, Carolyn Kay Smith; and his granddaughter, Angela Dawn Smith.

Earl was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II. Along with his son, Jerry, he was the owner/operator of Earl & Jerry’s Repair Shop for forty-two years. He loved spending time with his family and being with them every opportunity possible. He enjoyed going to car shows, traveling, and watching wrestling on t.v.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of seventy-four years; Clara Burleson Smith of the home; his sons; Jerry Smith and wife, Hilda of Spruce Pine and Richard Smith and wife, Linda of Kingsport, TN; his grandchildren; Jonathan and wife, Cassie; Melissa; Kate and husband, Mark; and Lorrie; his great grandchildren; Andrew, Lily, Abigail, Elizabeth, Evie, Elsie, Clarie, and Lydia; several nieces and nephews.

A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Freedom Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev’s Cass Buchanan, Dallas Renfro and David Troutman officiating. Interment will be in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
