Dorothy Mahrie stepped off the earth and into the stars on January 10, 2022, at Blue Ridge Medical Center in Spruce Pine.
Her kind and loving energy pervaded all she did, and she created beauty wherever she went.
Dorothy was born to Beatrice Marie Post and Edwin Price Post on May 17, 1958, in Staten Island, New York. She had an illustrious career in San Diego in Craniosacral Therapy and Energy Medicine, helping hundreds of people move through pain and into light and health. She enjoyed teaching others how to do what she knew. She taught Human Design in Nashville, TN.
When Dorothy moved to Burnsville, NC, she brought her artistry with her. Inspired by the color and flow of nature, this self-taught artist used fabrics, fibers, watercolor, acrylic, and alcohol inks to express and explore light, shapes, and shadows. She had a beautiful garden. Dorothy collected stones and crystals, and even as a child she kept her pockets full of rocks. She had two Etsy shops, One Spirit Way, with essential oils and stones; and All These Pieces, with fiber arts, quilts, and wall hangings. She created practical aids, too, like natural bug repellent, hair tonic, comforts for these challenging times. Dorothy was a member of Mountain Piecemakers Quilt Guild, and she helped her community through work at Galaxy Arts, Mountain Air, Babe’s Pizza and Treats, and M&S Sheds.
All her life, Dorothy nurtured a wide community of friends who feel blessed to have known her magic, creativity, and irrepressible energy. She passed away in the presence of her sister, Carol Anne Koch (Phil), and two of her many dear friends, Laura Seelbach and Martha Perry. Dorothy was a gatekeeper and healer for people who were transitioning, helping family members care for their loved ones. She continues being a source of love always.
