Star Bryant Bennett, age 95, of Ridgeview Lane, the Red Hill community in Bakersville, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 at her home.
Born on June 13, 1926 in Mitchell County on Brummitt’s Creek, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Betty Barnett Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Will Bennett who passed away in 1980. Also preceding her in death was her brother; Kenneth Vaughn Bryant; her half-sisters; Gail Griffith and Brenda Blanton and her half-brothers; Jim and Bill Bryant.
Star was a lifetime member of the Brummitt’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church where she joyfully served as the church pianist and church clerk for over fifty years. She retired from the Tipton Hill Elementary School as the cafeteria manager. She was known as Nanney Star – “The Red Hill Taxi.” She was a member of the Roan Mountain Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Music played a big part of her life. She was a member of the Golden Age Singers and early in her life she sang in the Zypher Quartet. She enjoyed activities at the Mitchell County Senior Citizens Center. She will be remembered for her gentle, quiet, and happy spirit.
Left to cherish her memory is her son; Paul Bennett and wife, Carol of Bakersville; her daughter; Virginia Patterson and husband, Leonard of Statesville; her grandchildren; David Bennett and wife, Sarah; Diana Perry; Susan Ramsey and husband, Allen; and Sarah Woody; her great grandchildren; Anna, Daniel, and John Silas Bennett; Justin Perry; Hannah and Eli Ramsey; and Caroline, Mary Beth, and Zeb Woody and her nephews; Michael Bryant and wife, Donna of Glasgow, KY and David Bryant and wife, Carol of Sevierville, TN.
Due to current health conditions and weather; a memorial service is being planned for March 20, 2022 at her home at 145 Ridgeview Lane, Bakersville, NC. Everyone who knew Star is invited to attend. During the memorial service, there will be singing, preaching, and sharing of memories. The exact time will be announced later. Interment was in the Ridgeview Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
