Carolyn Kate Chandler Shepherd, age 83, of the Swiss Community, went home to be with the Lord at her home on Tuesday, January 25th, 2022. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Pierce and Jaylina McKinney Chandler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Shepherd who passed away May 24th, 2017; a grandson, Cory Jake Hollifield who passed away on May 15th, 2016; sisters: Pearl Deaver, Myrtle Deaver, Dot Fox and Nina Chandler and brothers: Edd, Vernon, Bobby and Calvin Chandler. Carolyn was a member of Fox Creek Baptist Church where she was Treasurer for many years. She loved the Lord and was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being outside doing yard work and gardening and praying and talking on the phone with her special friends daily.
Surviving is her daughters: Marieka Shepherd Black of Hardscrabble, Barbara Shepherd Hollifield and husband, Keith, of Pensacola, and Jennifer Shepherd Peterson and husband, Terrence, of Indian Creek; grandsons: Caleb Lee Black, Joshua Seth Black and wife, Taylor, William Cody Hollifield and wife, Emily, Sully Peterson and Roanen Peterson; great-grandchildren: Kaden Everett and Nora Karolyne Hollifield and Paisley Rose Black and a brother, Donald Chandler and wife, Marietta, of Weaverville. Several very special nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 30th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Keith Blankenship will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
