On Friday 02/04/2022 Yancey County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a dispute and shots being fired. The dispute was reported to be between neighbors. Upon arrival in the area, officers located a male subject with a gunshot wound. George Ponder, 51, of Burnsville was charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon and Assault with a deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. Ponder is being held in the Yancey County Detention Center under a $300,000 bond. The victim remains in Mission Hospital.
