In a Mitchell County commissioners’ meeting Tuesday evening, the board named Mitchell County native, Allen Cook as the new county manager. Cook has most recently been the Director of the Small Business Center at Mayland Community College. He will not start work as the new Mitchell County Manager until April. Allen Cook is very familiar with Mitchell County and its history. In 2014 he authored the book, “Moonshine, Murder & Mountaineers: The Wildest County in America”, which is a true account of events in the 18 and 1900’s that took place in the county.
Cook will replace interim manager Lloyd Hise, who took over after Tim Greene retired on December 31st of 2021. Greene started as manager in March of 2020. He took over from interim manager Charles Vines who filled the position after commissioners voted to replace Kathy Young in December of 2019.
