Virginia Dare Caldwell Styles

Virginia “Ginny” Styles, age 89, of Burnsville passed away peacefully on FridayMarch25th, 2022 at her home.  A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Lillie Church Caldwell.   She was preceded in death by her loving husband JC in 2021.

Virginia was a perennial “people person” and worked in receptionist positions for a number of local businesses but particularly enjoyed her last position at Aldridge Eye Institute from which she retired.  She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Burnsville where she was very active in her church community serving in many positions including deacon.  Ginny was very athletically inclined and enjoyed a number of activities including teaching her ladies exercise class for many years.

Surviving is her loving son, Darrel K. Styles of Hyattsville, MD; extended family of in-laws Thelma Hughes and husband, Jack; Wilma Garland and husband, Rev. Philip; Katie Evans and husband, Jim; Wade Styles and wife, Mary Jo; and sister-in-law, Jewell C. Styles all of Burnsville; and Diana Wooten and husband, Curtis of Morganton.  She also had many nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.   Ginny would also want to thank her many wonderful caretakers especially Rita Higgins, friend Sally McCoy, and her excellent and compassionate nurse from CCWNC, Terri Farless.

Ginny was a warm and loving person who was devoted to family and her church, with too many friends to list here; many of whom have already preceded her in death.  She had a special place in her heart for animals and supported humane causes.  And she will be especially remembered for always having a kind word or hug for those in need and reaching out to her many friends with cards and phone calls of support.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday April 3rd2022 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church of Burnsville to celebrate her life.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Compassionate Care of Western North Carolina [856 George’s Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714] and/or the Yancey County Humane Society [P.O. Box 1016, Burnsville, NC 28714].  To send online condolences, please visit the website www.yanceyfuneralservice.com.
