Yancey County Sheriff Shane Hilliard says that the person responsible for calling 911 Monday afternoon and falsely reporting a shooter at Blue Ridge elementary School has been identified. The person responsible is a juvenile student in the Yancey County School system. The call was received by 911 at 12:21 pm. The student was located at another school in Yancey County when the call was placed. A search was performed at the child’s residence and the child nor the parents have any firearms. The juvenile will be held responsible with criminal charges forth coming. Sheriff Hilliard thanked the parents of the students from the schools involved for their patience during the incidence and all of the emergency personnel for a quick and professional response.
