Bessie “Susie” Hollifield, age 68, of Avery County, passed away on Friday, May 6th, 2022 at her home.
A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late James Basil Calloway and Lola Matilda Benfield. She was preceded in death by a son, Kaleb James Hollifield, and a brother, Randall Calloway.
Susie was a registered nurse and worked at the Avery County Health Department for 20 years. She was a very compassionate person and made lots of friends, and helped many families while working there. She enjoyed working outside in her flower garden, fishing, and spending time with her family and grandchildren that she loved dearly.
Surviving is the father of her children, Gene Hollifield; her son, Casey Hollifield, and wife, Katrina, of Newland; grandchildren: Coralee and Caroline Hollifield and Lane Wright; brothers: Larry Benfield (Carolyn) of High Point, NC and James Junior Calloway of Newland; sisters: Vanessa Aldridge and Reba Horney (Michael) of Newland, NC, and her best friend, Angie Thompson of Pineola.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9th at Victory Baptist Church in Newland with the Rev. Ethan Greene officiating.
