Clayton Troy Autrey, age 35, of Busick, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 1st, 2022. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of Sonny Autrey of Busick and the late Jewell Effler Autrey, who passed away in 2019. He was also preceded in death by his niece, Annabell Autrey, and a cousin, Alexandra Effler.
Clay received his Associate Degree from Mayland Community College where he met the love of his life and best friend, Lauren Buchanan. They later married in October of 2018. Clay loved gaming, watching movies, and all sports, especially baseball. He was a huge fan of the Cincinnati Reds, partly because he spent so much time at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
In addition to his father, Sonny, and his loving wife and best friend, Lauren Buchanan-Autrey, he is survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carroll and Cynthia Buchanan, of Grassy Creek; brother, Clint Autrey and wife, Rebecca, of Swannanoa; nephews: Emerson, Wyatt and Tucker Autrey; uncles: William Effler of Busick, and Tommy Autrey and wife, Linda, of Woodland, Washington; as well as their special cats: Mr. Hyde, Renfield and Coraline. Several other special extended family members also survive.
No services will be planned at this time, but if you would like to make a donation in Clay’s memory, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to either a children’s hospital or an animal shelter of your choice.
