At a special meeting on July 13th the Yancey County Board of Education unanimously approved Mr. William Byland as the new principal for East Yancey Middle School.
Byland has been a middle school principal and administrator in Craven County for the last eight years and an English teacher in Lincoln County for years prior.
He grew up in nearby Ashe County and lived in Boone for many years attending Appalachian State University where he earned an Educational Specialist Degree in Leadership, a Master’s Degree in Reading Education, and a Bachelor’s Degree in English.
Byland said he is excited to return to the mountains where he has called home for most of his life with his wife and three children.
