Harold Lester Laws, age 85, of Green Mountain, passed away on Saturday, July 23rd at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation.
A native of Yancey County, he was one of thirteen children to the late Lester and Ruby Edwards Laws. He was also preceded in death by: two brothers, Leroy Laws and Homer Laws.
Harold was a proud Navy veteran and served on the USS Murray battleship during his military service. He was a retired logger and caretaker of the family cemetery for 53 years. He loved the Atlanta Braves, his two cats, Holly and Tiger, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by seven sisters: Grace Sturgill, Bonnie McCurry, Lena Robinson, Burma Robinson, Jane Deyton, Evelyn Medford and Kay McMahan; three brothers: Junior Laws, Reece Laws and Mack Laws and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Messino Cancer Center, Charles George VA Medical Center, Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, Compassionate Care of WNC and Yancey Transportation Services for all the wonderful care they provided to Harold during his illness, but most of all, they would like to thank God for the comfort he gave Harold before he passed.
Due to COVID the family has decided to do a graveside service at 12 noon on Saturday, August 13th in the Deyton/Laws Cemetery on Bailey Hill.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Yancey County Humane Society at PO Box 1016, Burnsville, NC 28714.
