Farrell Hughes

Farrell Hughes, age 79, of the Roaring Creek community, passed away on Thursday, August 11th, 2022 at Watauga Medical Center.  A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Herman Lee and Bertie Hughes. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Anna Ruth Calhoun Hughes; two brothers: Doyle Hughes and Donnie Hughes; a sister, Edna Ruth Hughes; and son-in-law, Rocky Grant. He enjoyed watching westerns on television, smoking his pipe, and teasing and playing jokes on his grandkids.

Surviving are two daughters: Deanna Gragg and husband, Jimmy, of Collettsville, and Beth Grant of Roaring Creek; son, Kenny Hughes and wife, Shannon, of Squirrel Creek; grandchildren: Leslie Gragg, James Gragg and wife, Jill, Lindsey Greer and husband, Jamie, Lacey Noble and husband, Justin, Rocky Grant, Jr. and wife, Autumn, Hunter Grant and wife, Jess, Brianna Grant, Brooke Grant, and Gideon Hughes and wife, Brittany; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great-grandchild; brother, Damon Hughes and wife, Marsha, of Roaring Creek; sister, Judy Puckett and husband, Carson, of Banner Elk; and special niece, Brenda Singleton and husband, T.L., of Roaring Creek.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16th in the Hughes Cemetery on Roaring Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to help with expenses. To send online condolences, please visit our website at www.yanceyfuneralservice.com.
