Medicare Open Enrollment begins October 15 and runs through December 7, 2022. Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey reminds Medicare beneficiaries to compare and evaluate their current plans and make necessary changes during the Open Enrollment Period. SHIIP (Senior’s Health Insurance Information Program) is a division of the North Carolina Department of Insurance and offers free, unbiased information about Medicare, Medicare prescription drug coverage, Medicare Advantage, long-term care insurance and other health insurance issues as well as fraud and abuse. SHIIP shows you all plans available in your area at the best prices. We are not licensed insurance agents and do not sell or endorse any product, plan or company. We can help you enroll in the plan that you choose. We can also screen you for Medicare cost savings programs.
Local SHIIP Coordinator, Vivian Hollifield, is located in the Yancey Co. Cooperative Extension office located at 30 E. US Hwy. 19-E Bypass just beside Rio’s Mexican Restaurant. Coordinator has over 20 years of experience counseling Medicare beneficiaries and their families. You do not have to be a Yancey Co. resident to receive Medicare counseling at this location.
