On Sunday, October 2, 2022, as her loving family surrounded her bedside, Retta Muriel Grindstaff, at age 84, left her earthly home on Silvers Hollow Road and entered her new eternal home in Heaven.
Muriel was born on August 17, 1938 to Sam and Mary H. Buchanan of the Bandana Community in Mitchell County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brown Grindstaff; her brothers: Roy and Archie Buchanan and her sisters: Irene B. Greene, JoAnn B. Silver, Beatrice B. Downer and Edna McKinney.
After graduating from Bowman High School in 1956, Muriel married the love of her life, Brown Grindstaff. Due to Brown’s service with the U.S. Air Force, they lived in several different areas before being able to settle down in the Snow Creek Community of Mitchell County. There they happily lived while working hard, caring for parents and raising daughters Regina and Daphne.
Muriel lived a fulfilled life while loving and serving the Lord and enjoying all of His beautiful creations. She loved and thrived in being with each of her family members including her church and work family. Muriel was a doting, loving and supporting wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a devoted sister, a true, loyal friend, and most of all a dedicated, caring, believing follower of Jesus Christ.
Survivors of Muriel Grindstaff include daughters: Regina Killian (Tony) and Daphne Vinson (Cliff); grandchildren: Anya Williams (Brandon), Adam Vue (Shanon), Derick Turner (Donna) and Dustin Turner (Brinkley) and great-grandchildren whom she adored: Cadence, Camdyn and Carter Williams and Ty and Nala Vue.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2022 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Brent Frady and Pastor Gary Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be: Dustin Turner, Derick Turner, Brandon Williams, Adam Vue, Ricky Turner and Tim Silver. Honorary pallbearers will be: Carter Williams and Ty Vue.
