Carroll Henderson Forbes, age 74, of Crossnore, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 18th.
A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Kit Carson and Mildred Henderson Forbes. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Marcella Kay Vance Forbes, as well as a brother-in-law, Lee Watson, and sisters-in-law, Adele Forbes and Melissa Forbes.
Carroll was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Avery High School’s Booster Club. He served in the U.S. Army as military police, then later farmed and was also manager of Linn Keep Farms. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially in the Low Country of South Carolina.
Surviving is his son, Mark Forbes (Cassie) of Newland; a granddaughter, Lilli Forbes of Newland; three brothers: David Forbes (Anna Ruth) of Newland, Larry Forbes of Newland, and William Forbes of Linville; three sisters: Judy Watson of Denver, NC, Darlene Watson (Bill) of Newland, and Susan Woody (Norman) of Jonas Ridge.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23rd in the Clark Cemetery. Dr. Ron Greene will officiate. The family requests that memorials be made to Amorem Hospice Care at 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690, or to Oak Grove Baptist Church at 1790 Miller’s Gap Highway, Newland, NC 28657.
