Thula Jean Hughes, age 90, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on November 28, 2022. A resident of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Berlin and Mary Styles Jones. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, S.C. Hughes; sister, Jewel Silver; and brothers: Steve Jones and L.C. Jones.
Thula was a faithful member of Young’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from American Thread Co. in Woodlawn, N.C.
Left to cherish her memory are her brothers: Carson (Opal) Jones, and Sam Jones; sisters: Shirley Jones, Ruth (Jim) Shipman, and Charlotte (Kenneth) Whitaker; son, Gordon Higgins and wife, Donna; a grandchild, Shane Dale and wife Heather; and great-grandchildren; Easten Dale and Cooper Dale.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in Jones Cemetery in Burnsville, NC.
The family wants to give a special thanks to Compassionate Care of Western North Carolina for the wonderful care they have given.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Gideon bibles be donated in Thula’s name. Donations may also be made to Compassionate Care of WNC at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714
