Antony “Tony” Hughes, age 65, of the Windom Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 28th, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of Jack and Thelma Styles Hughes. Tony retired from Baxter Healthcare after 21 years of service and was a lifelong member of Windom Methodist Church where he was Superintendent since he was 18 years old. Tony enjoyed singing in the church choir, watching racing and especially racing himself. Surviving in addition to his parents, Jack and Thelma are his loving wife of 41 years, Patricia Ledford Hughes; son, TJ Hughes (Arturo Sanchez); brothers: Derek Hughes (Debbie) of Cane River and Brett Hughes (Rachel), of Newdale and sisters-in-law: Lisa Ledford of Burnsville and Linda Ledford of Bakersville. Several nieces, nephews and a great-niece also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, December 2nd in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Warren Lunsford, Gwen Harris and John Hall will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Pete Young Cemetery.
