The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has now identified the victim in the Friday night, December 9th, hit-and-run accident that occurred in Yancey County. The victim has been identified as 36 year old Kenya Starr Ball of Burnsville.
Highway Patrol Trooper Rohn Silvers said authorities were called to investigate a collision about 7 p.m. Ball was walking beside or on the edge of US 19E in the Bald Creek area, when she was hit and taken to Mission Hospital in critical condition with a severe leg injury and several minor injuries. There was no driver at the scene of the accident.
Authorities received a call from 41 year old William Monroe Martin, who is a Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office detention officer, and met him at his home in Burnsville. Martin said he knew he had hit something but was unsure what it was. Martin was taken into custody by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and charged with felony hit/run fail to stop personal injury.
