Daniel Lyle Ward

Daniel Lyle Ward, age 71, of Asheville North Carolina, loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather, passed into the Kingdom of Heaven suddenly Saturday, December 10th, 2022.

Dan served his country in the Air Force and Air National Guard for more than thirty-three years at Myrtle Beach South Carolina and McIntire Air National Guard Base in Columbia South Carolina. Dan traveled around the world proudly serving his country in many countries including service in the Gulf War as a F16 Crew Chief, Master Sergeant. He was a man of strong faith supporting church fellowships in each location he called home throughout his life. A keen athlete he enjoyed many sports over the years, but he especially loved the fellowship of church softball. A skilled handyman he could fix anything and loved helping neighbors with any repair they found too challenging. Friends and neighbors called him ‘Dan the Man’ and ‘The Mayor’ with great love and respect. He often cleared the snow from sidewalks and driveways for the entire block, mowed lawns for elderly neighbors, and was available to assist anyone in need.

Dan was preceded in death by his father Rev. Lyle Daniel Ward, his mother Dorothy Helen Fairchild Ward, sisters Janice Ward Hall, Arlean Mae Ward, and Linda Ward Crawford. He is survived by his wife Joyce May Ward, son Bryan Lyle Ward (Lauren), and grandson Lyle Jennings Ward of Hopkins South Carolina. Also, sisters Joyce Burke (Richard) of Concord Michigan, Nancy Sweet of Phoenix Arizona, Sally Miller (Roger) of Swannanoa North Carolina, and Pam Ellison (John) of Asheville North Carolina, along with many nieces, and nephews.

Dan’s memorial service followed by visitation will be held at Yancey Funeral Services 378 Charlie Brown Road, Burnsville, NC 28714, Burnsville NC, on Friday, December 16th, 2022 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Ashes will be placed at the Dulaney Cemetery, Burnsville North Carolina at a later date in private internment.
