Edward Goins, age 82, of the Plumtree Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 27th, 2022. A native and lifelong resident of Avery County, he was a son of the late Ira and Fannie Buchanan Goins. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Betsy Danielle Dellinger, in 2021; two brothers: Sanford Goins and Jerry Goins; and three sisters: Lucille Duncan, Louellen Tolley and Lorraine King.
Edward enjoyed mechanicing and tinkering in his building, yard work and gardening, and enjoyed his time at home. Edward was a truck driver for most of his life, working for Feldspar, Underwood, and Weld throughout his career. He also enjoyed surf fishing, eating flounder, and going to the beach. He loved the Lord and going to church, Edward was a member of Powder Mill Baptist Church all his life. He also had a never-ending love for his family, especially his grandkids.
Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years, Alda Odom Goins; son, Michael Goins of Cranberry; four daughters: Tammy Dellinger of Newland, Gail Hughes (Doug) of Henson Creek, Missie Grishaber (Mike) of Ledger, and Beth Walden (Josh) of Ingalls; seven grandchildren: Stacey Smith, Kendall Grishaber, Matthew Goins, Tyler Goins, Abigail Gouge, Breanna Hughes, and Anna Thompson; six great-grandchildren: Garrett, Heidi, Violet, Myles, Jordan and Kensley; two sisters: Louise Goins of Morganton and Louann Nease (Frankie) of Denver, NC; and special former son-in-law, Jamey Thompson.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 2nd, 2023, at Powdermill Baptist Church. Rev. Daniel Whetstine will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at the Goins Family Cemetery on Licklog Road.
